The University of Iowa Medical Center is located on the health science campus of The University of Iowa. The campus consists of the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, all of the Universitys health sciences colleges and the Hardin Library for the Health Sciences. The colleges of Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing and Pharmacy have a total of over 2,000 students. The Hardin Library contains over 211,000 bound volumes and some 3,400 serials and journals. The medical center is an integral part of the University and has a longstanding tradition of excellence in patient care and education. It has long been recognized as one of the leading health care centers in the world.

The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics is a large and well-supported teaching hospital complex providing tertiary level services for the entire state and adjacent population centers in nearby Illinois, while at the same time creating an environment for health education programs at all levels and in all specialties. UI Hospitals and Clinics is one of the nation's largest university-owned teaching hospitals, with 772 beds, providing service to more than 40,973 patients annually.
University Hospitals clinical services are organized through 20 departments: anesthesiology, cardiothoracic surgery, hospital dentistry, dermatology, emergency medicine, family medicine, internal medicine, neurology, neurosurgery, obstetrics and gynecology, ophthalmology, orthopaedics, otolaryngology, pathology, pediatrics, psychiatry, radiology, radiation oncology, surgery, and urology. Each clinical service offers residency programs and fellowship programs as applicable.

The Carver College of Medicine - Devotion to Teaching
The University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine contributes significantly to the strength of The University of Iowa Medical Center. With a large full-time faculty of over 600 members, the college carries out its functions of education, research and service. Talented faculty bring fresh ideas, new techniques, and enthusiasm to the teaching of over 700 medical students and 1,000 residents, fellows and graduate students in various training programs.
The Department of Neurology enthusiastically contributes to the education of medical students in the Carver College of Medicine. In recent years, a large number of Neurology faculty and residents have been selected by one or more medical school classes to receive college-wide teaching awards. The department’s clinical clerkship for third- and fourth-year medical students consistently ranks among the top one or two in the curriculum.
The College of Medicine's teaching and basic science facilities are located adjacent to the University Hospitals and Clinics allowing scientists from both basic science and clinical departments to easily pursue interdisciplinary research and education in such areas as human molecular genetics, immunology, molecular and cell biology, and neuroscience.
