Care During Pregnancy, Childbirth and Beyond
For centuries, women have looked to midwives for advice and assistance in childbirth. Today’s certified nurse midwife continues this tradition of
personal, family-centered care as a highly skilled health professional who draws on the vast resources of modern medicine.
At UI Hospitals and Clinics and UI Family Care—North Liberty, South East and River Crossing, certified nurse-midwives care for healthy women during their childbearing years.
In addition to complete obstetrical care for healthy women, Nurse-midwifery Service offers preconception counseling and gynecological care including:
- Breast examinations
- Pap smears
- Family planning services
- Consultation and/or referrals according to patient needs
The service focuses on wellness and consumer choice. The nurse-midwives welcome questions and take time to listen and talk. They encourage women to make informed decisions about their health care.
