Clinical Services / Conditions Treated

  • Gynecologic surgical issues in the child and adolescent such as ovarian cysts, torsion (twisting of the tube and/or ovary), congenital abnormalities of the vagina, cervix or uterus (such as lack of uterus, or a septum blocking the vagina - see Center for Congenital Anomalies of the Reproductive Tract)
  • Vulvar or vaginal abnormalities in the child or adolescent (may be seen along with our Vulvar/Vaginal Disease Clinic) such as lesions, bleeding before puberty, or discharge
  • Abnormalities of puberty such as delayed puberty (may be seen in conjunction with our Pediatric Endocrinology Clinic)
  • Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome in the adolescent
  • Excess body hair growth in the child or adolescent
  • Abnormal or painful menses in the adolescent
  • Premenstrual syndrome in the adolescent
  • Endometriosis or pelvic pain in the adolescent
  • Menstrual abnormalities related to disordered eating and/or excessive exercise in the adolescent
  • Breast masses, discharge, or other abnormalities in the child or adolescent
  • Contraception questions or prescriptions for the adolescent
  • Annual exams with Pap smears for the adolescent
  • Follow-up of abnormal Pap smears in the adolescent
  • Issues of menstrual hygiene and fertility in the disabled teenager
  • Adolescent wellness visits – age 11-13 or within a year of the first menses to update vaccinations (including the HPV vaccine), discuss issues of menstruation, sexuality and relationships, pregnancy and sexually transmitted infection prevention, nutrition and body image.  This visit need not include a pelvic exam.
