UI Experts Can Help
Pelvic Floor Disorders

Women with pelvic floor dysfunction can find help at the UI Urogynecology and Pelvic Reconstructive Surgery Clinic. Problems may include urinary and stool incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, (including uterine prolapse, cystocele, rectocele, and enterocele), difficulties with urination or defecation, and an overactive bladder.

A urogynecologist is an obstetrician/gynecologist who has received specialized training in the care of women with Pelvic Floor Dysfunction. The pelvic floor includes the muscles, ligaments, connective tissue and nerves that help support and control the rectum, uterus, vagina, and bladder.

The pelvic floor can be damaged by childbirth, repeated heavy lifting, chronic disease or surgery.
