Urogynecology Research

Research is an important part of our mission to improve the care of women with pelvic floor dysfunction, including bladder and prolapse conditions. Our Urogynecology faculty and staff are involved in a variety of research studies.

We are seeking volunteers to participate in several ongoing research projects:

Questionnaire for female Urinary Incontinence Diagnosis (QUID) Studies

Women, age 18 and older, with bothersome urinary leakage at least one time per week, are invited to participate in a research study evaluating the cause of urine leakage. Participation would require two visits and completion of a bladder diary and a home pad test. Compensation is provided.

BRIDGES Cinical Trial: Overactive Bladder/Urge Incontinence

Healthy women age 18 or older with bladder control problems (daily urinary leakage and urgency to urinate) are invited to participate in a University of Iowa research study to evaluate fesoterodine (study medication) in reducing the frequency of Urge Urinary Incontinence. Study medication(s) and all study tests will be provided at no cost and compensation is provided.

Urogynecology Research Recruitment Registry

The Division of Urogynecology has established a database of potential research participants. Women who have an interest in participating in Urogynecology research studies may enter their contact information into the registry in order to receive information about future studies.

Multi-disciplinary Approach to the Study of Urologic Chronic Pelvic Pain (MAPP): Interstitial Cystitis/Painful Bladder Syndrome

The University of Iowa has recently been awarded NIH funding as part of a network to study chronic bladder pain conditions. Research studies related to painful bladder syndrome and interstitial cystitis will be starting soon.

For more information about any Urogynecology research studies, call 319-384-8028 or e-mail regina-arthur@uiowa.edu.
