On Friday mornings didactic sessions are held to systematically review all basic and clinical aspects of gynecologic oncology. There are monthly research meetings, review of journal articles, and book chapter reviews. A Gyn-Oncology Tumor Board is held each Tuesday afternoon, with review of pathology. There is a weekly review of patientsparticipating in clinical trials.
A Gynecologic Oncology Journal Club is held monthly. Obstetrics & Gynecology Grand Rounds are held each Tuesday and are followed by Departmental Morbidity and Mortality Conference. The latter includes discussion of Gyn-Oncology M&M cases.
Numerous outstanding University and College of Medicine lectures are available and fellows are encouraged to and do attend when possible. Active teaching also occurs during rounds and in the operating room. Attending rounds are made daily.
The fellow is actively involved in medical student and resident education. Teaching occurs during rounds, in the operating room, and during in-house call. The fellow gives several third-year medical student lectures on Gyn-Oncology topics during the academic year. A formal Grand Rounds presentation is given yearly.
By completion of the program, the fellow is prepared to assume a junior faculty position in an academic Division of Gynecologic Oncology.
