The University of Iowa Women’s Reproductive Health Research (WRHR) Career Development Center is part of a national network of mentored institutional career development programs for physician scientists and junior faculty who have recently completed postgraduate clinical training in Obstetrics and Gynecology and are committed to an independent research career in women's reproductive health. This supervised training program is sponsored by the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) and the NIH Office of Research on Women's Health.
The primary goal of the University of Iowa WRHR Career Development Center is to train physician scientists and junior faculty in the methodology needed to pursue basic and translational research in the area of women’s reproductive health. Individuals with little or no research experience as well as those with one or more years of research training are encouraged to apply. Those without prior research experience will be appointed to the training program for 5 years whereas those with some research experience may be appointed for 2-4 years. Regardless of the length of the appointment all WRHR scholars will be guaranteed 75% protected time for research education and training.
Applicants may make a preliminary choice between a basic research track or a clinical-epidemiologic research track and choose a mentor but a final choice will be made after acceptance to the program and in consultation with the Research Director.
