Dr. Brian R. Kirschling is an optometrist and a Clinical Assistant
Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology. He holds a Bachelor of Science
degree in Biology from the University of Iowa and a Bachelor of Science
in Visual Science from the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago, IL.
Dr. Kirschling graduated with a Doctorate in Optometry from the Illinois
College of Optometry in 1999 and went on to complete his residency training
in Hospital-Based Optometry at the Louis B. Stokes Cleveland VA Medical
Center in Cleveland, Ohio. Dr. Kirschling joined the faculty at The University
of Iowa in July 2000 and currently sees patients in both the Comprehensive
Ophthalmology Clinic and the Contact Lens Clinic. Dr. Kirschling is certified
by the National Board of Examiners in Optometry and is a candidate for
fellowship in the American Academy of Optometry. He is a member of the
American Optometric Association, CLAO, and the Iowa Optometric Association.
His current area of interest lies in investigating the impact of the Age-Related
Eye Disease Study on practitioner recommendations to patients with cataract
and macular degeneration.
