Recommendations For Testing
CI Patients With No HA Who Will Be CI+CI


Definitions:

CI(1) = First cochlear implant received


1. Localization

Test set-up:

  • 2 loudspeakers, each located +/- 45º from the front of the patient
  • Speech noise presented randomly at 54, 59 and 64 dB HL
  • Present 50 speech noise bursts; 25 to each side; random order

Test Conditions:

  • CI(1)

2. Speech Perception in Noise; Noise facing CI(1)

Test set-up:

  • Speech presented from loudspeaker placed directly in front (0º) of the patient at 70 dB C
  • Speech noise presented from a loudspeaker at 90º from the front directly facing CI(1).  Noise presented at 60 dB C (i.e. + 10 dB signal-to-noise ratio).
  • If the patient scores above 80% correct (ceiling effect) or below 20% correct (floor effect) at +10 dB signal-to-noise ratio, then an alternative signal-to-noise ratio should be used.  Record the signal-to-noise ratio.
  • At least 20 sentences per test condition
