There are many different types of contemporary hearing
aids. There are hearing aids with directional microphones
which may help some individuals hear better in background
noise. There are multi-memory hearing aids that allow a
person to select a hearing aid program for different
environments, such as quiet or noisy situations, or while
listening to music -- all at the touch of a button.
Digital
hearing aids offer increased fitting flexibility, often with
special options such as a low battery indicator or delayed
activation to prevent feedback when inserting the aid. Some
hearing aids come with remote controls, and one company even
offers a remote control that is built into a wristwatch. In
addition, almost all contemporary hearing aids and earmolds
come in a variety of colors and styles (e.g. behind-the-ear
or in-the-ear).
Your audiologist will help you find the
specific type and style of hearing aid that is appropriate
for you. Many of the options available will depend on the
type and degree of hearing loss you have.
