How does a Hearing Aid Work?

All hearing aids consist of the same parts:

  • A microphone, to pick up sound
  • An amplifier, to make sound louder
  • A speaker, to bring sound to the ear
  • A battery, for power

Although hearing aids contain the same basic parts, the circuitry and overall design varies, which does affect the final costs. In response to consumer demands, hearing aids have become smaller over the recent years. Please note, however, that smaller is not always better. The specific type of hearing aid that is appropriate for you will depend on the type and degree of hearing loss you have.
