Speech

What Are Speech and Language Disorders?
When someone's speech doesn't sound right or is difficult to understand, that person may have a speech or language disorder. These disorders may be caused by illness, accidents, strokes, birth defects such a cleft palate, or by difficulties with learning.

At UI Hospitals and Clinics Speech and Swallowing Clinic, speech pathologists and physicians who specialize in treating patients with speech or language disorders work together to learn the cause of the problem and offer the best treatment plan. They then work to help the person with the speech disorder make the treatment plan work.

The Speech and Swallowing Clinic is staffed by experienced physicians and speech pathologists involved in speech, language, and swallowing management, counseling, and therapy.
