Better Speech and Hearing

How can you tell if you or someone near you has hearing loss?

  • You feel that people "mumble."
  • You frequently ask people to repeat.
  • Others complain that your TV/radio is too loud.
  • You hear ringing or buzzing in your ears.

Things to look for in children:

  • Your infant does not startle to a loud sound.
  • You have concerns about your child's speech/language development.

Treatment options:

  • Hearing aids
    • Styles
      • Behind-the-ear
      • In-the-ear
      • In-the-canal
      • Completely-in-the-canal
      • BAHA System
    • Technology
      • Conventional/analog
      • Digital
      • Directional microphones
  • Assistive listening devices:
    • Telephone amplifier
    • Personal amplifier
    • Alerting devices
  • Communication strategies
    • Maintain eye contact
    • Reduce background noise

Prevention is the best medicine! Protect your ears from noise! Damaging noise levels extend beyond the work place. Wear hearing protection when exposed to any loud noise such as power tools, lawn mower, motorcycles, gunfire, or rock music.
