Welcome

Dr. GantzThe Department of Otolaryngology at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics was founded in 1922 and is one of the oldest in the United States and one of the most comprehensive in the world.

It is situated in the largest university-owned teaching hospital in the country. U.S.News & World Report has consistently rated this department among the top three Otolaryngology programs in the United States for the past 10 years. “Best Doctors”, an online database of peer evaluated physicians, has consistently included members of our faculty.

Our department prides itself on the highest standards of patient care.  For this we credit the balance that we strike between clinical work, training and research.  Each of these care elements sharpens the skills of the other and contributes to a thorough and compassionate approach to patient care that includes the most refined treatment protocols in medicine.

Each faculty member brings great expertise to their specialty area, which is often supported by research.  Annually we receive awards from the National Institutes of Health in excess of $5 million to pursue our research.

Training the next generation of caregivers is a vital part of our mission as a teaching hospital.  Annually we accept five residents to our residency program.  Fellowships in a head and neck oncology and pediatric otolaryngology are also available annually, while an otology fellow is accepted every two years.  Various other training opportunities exist in the fields of rhinology, speech pathology and short-term fellowships for visiting students.

We look forward to serving you.

Bruce J. Gantz, MD, FACS
