Welcome
The Pediatric Blood and Marrow Transplant Program at the University of Iowa Children's Hospital opened in May 1986.
Frederick Goldman MD, has been a member of this program since 1992
and thedirector of the program since 1997.
Mohamed Radhi MD joined our PBMT staff in 2003 after completing his specialized BMT training at Emory. Thomas Loew
MD, Raymond
Tannous MD (Interim Director), and Jorge
Di Paola MD are the other physicians who work with this program.
At this time we perform approximately 20 marrow transplants per year
and have performed a total of over 425 transplants. We perform autologous
and allogeneic marrow, peripheral blood stem cell and umbilical cord blood transplants, and have experience using not only matched related donors but also matched and partially matched unrelated and mismatched related donors. In fact, we have transplanted over 150 patients with mismatched related donors.
Our program is a accredited by the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy and is a Children’s Oncology Group autologous and allogeneic transplant center. We are associated with the National Marrow Donor Program and, as such, we are able to search their registry as well as international registries covering over 10 million volunteer unrelated marrow donors. The National Marrow Donor Program has recently added an umbilical cord database to their search system so in addition to marrow donors we have access to the cryopreserved cord blood units in over 15 cord blood banks.
