Diagnostic Services:

• Hormone stimulation tests to assess secretion of growth hormone, cortisol, puberty hormones, glucose and insulin, and water balance.

Consultative Services:

Consultative services are provided to primary care providers for abnormal congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) and congenital hypothyroidism (CH) results identified through the Iowa Neonatal Metabolic Screening Program (INMSP). Our endocrine consultants will notify the infant's health care provider of the abnormal presumptive positive result and recommend a course of action. Through ongoing telephone communication, the consultant assists with interpretation of laboratory results and, when indicated, provides recommendations for treatment and/ or referral to a Pediatric Endocrinologist. Our physicians and nurse coordinator are also available to address general questions and concerns related to the endocrine component of neonatal screening through telephone communication.
