Description of Clinical Genetics Rotations


UICH/UIHC Connective Tissue Clinics

The Connective Tissue Disorders Clinic in a multidisciplinary clinic coordinated with the Cardiology and Ophthalmology services at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. These one-half day clinics take place in the Pediatric Subspecialty Clinic area of the Children’s Hospital of Iowa/UIHC 1 to 2 days/week.  This clinic provides diagnostic evaluations, ongoing care, and genetic counseling for individuals (adult and pediatric) with hereditary connective tissue disorders, including Marfan syndrome, Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, familial thoracic aortic aneurysm syndrome (TAA), osteogenesis imperfecta, and other less common connective tissue disorders.  Dr. Marcia Willing began this clinic in 1996 because of her interest in connective tissue disorders.  The clinic has become a regional referral center for connective tissue disorders, with referrals coming from Illinois, Nebraska and Missouri as well as within Iowa and the institution.
