Medical Genetics Residency Program

Description of Clinical Genetics Rotations

Inpatient Consult Service

This rotation is performed in conjunction with other rotations the resident may be assigned to.  During the assigned inpatient consult period the resident will carry a pager, but will always see patients with the faculty person assigned to consults.  The average number of consults each month is 12.  Patients/problems seen during an inpatient consult typically consist of acute evaluations for babies with malformations or other suspected genetic disorders in the nurseries or children suspected of having an inborn error of metabolism.  Other consults occur on patients with other major and/or chronic illnesses where a genetic cause is suspected.

Duration: Minimum of three 1-month rotations per year
