Description of Clinical Genetics Rotations


Research Rotation

A component of the Medical Genetics Residency Program at the University of Iowa is research.  There are ample opportunities for laboratory-based research in molecular genetics and cytogenetics within the Division of Medical Genetics and the University of Iowa College of Medicine.  Drs. Sheffield, Willing, Murray and Patil have independent research laboratories.  Funding for these laboratories come from diverse sources including NIH, Carver Charitable Trust and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute.  Drs. Copeland and Keppler are involved in funded clinical research grants.  The laboratories of other researchers in the Department of Pediatrics and the College of Medicine including the Interdepartmental Genetics Ph.D. Program and the Interdepartmental Program in Human Molecular Genetics are available for research opportunities for residents.
