* Both the University of Iowa and our pediatric cardiology fellowship program are committed to fostering gender, ethnic and racial diversity. The University of Iowa began admitting African-American students from its inception in the mid-19th Century. It was also the first public institution in the country to admit women on an equal basis with men. This legacy and the enormous importance of diversity in the global community of the 21st Century underscore our institutional commitment to improving access to opportunity for all members of society, especially women and underrepresented minorities.
