Pulmonology Fellowship Program:
Department of Pediatrics

Application Information*

Our 3 year program generally includes up to 3 fellows at a time, normally accepting one new fellow each year. Because fellowship funding is primarily derived from federal training grants or the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, we usually are only able to consider applications from U.S. citizens or permanent residents holding green cards. However, highly qualified foreign medical graduates who have an ECFMG certificate and do not need financial support may also apply. Application materials are accepted after the beginning of the PL2 residency year.

This three-year program fulfills the requirements of the American Board of Pediatrics Sub-board of Pediatric Pulmonary Medicine and is accredited by the Residency Review Committee of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. We are committed to the training of the next generation of academic pediatric pulmonologists, both those whose aspirations are to be clinician educators and those aiming for tenure track investigator positions.

Application Materials Needed:
  • Completed application - Download Application (doc)
  • Résumé/Curriculum Vitae
  • Personal Statement (limit to one page)
  • Four letters of recommendation including:

* Both the University of Iowa and the pulmonology fellowship program are committed to fostering gender, ethnic and racial diversity. The University of Iowa began admitting African-American students from its inception in the mid-19th Century. It was also the first public institution in the country to admit women on an equal basis with men. This legacy and the enormous importance of diversity in the global community of the 21st Century underscore our institution's commitment to improving access to opportunity for all members of society, especially women and underrepresented minorities.
