Clinical Interests
Dr. Nester's clinical interest is in both Adult and Pediatric Nephrology and her focus is in diseases that affect the glomerulus of the kidney. She has a particular interest in those renal diseases that result from abnormal complement activation and deposition.

Research Interests:

Dr. Nester's current research focuses on complement mediated renal diseases with a special laboratory focus on Dense Deposit Disease (DDD) and Atypical Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (aHUS). She is a Child Health Research Scholar who is funded through a K12 mechanism to study novel therapies for these diseases.

An additional project under development involves the collection of renal biopsy material with paired urine, plasma, and leukocyte DNA/RNA from patients with renal disease. This project is designed to foster collaboration with other institutions and researchers into genetic and epigenetic mechanisms of renal disease.
