PhD – Washington University; 1997

Postgraduate Education

Pediatric Endocrinology Fellowship – Children’s Hospital Boston
Pediatric Endocrinology Fellowship – Joslin Diabetes Center

Clinical Interests
All aspects of pediatric diabetes: type 1 and 2 diabetes in children; rare forms of diabetes in youth.

Research Interests:

  • Molecular interactions between lipid metabolism and insulin action
  • Fetal diabetic programming
  • Bioinformatics directed at diabetes research

Model System

  1. Physiological: We have created a novel model of diabetes in pregnancy in order to study fetal diabetic programming.
  2. Cellular: We are exploring the interactions between sugar and fat metabolism using molecular manipulations that affect lipid handling and/or insulin signaling.
  3. Transgenic: We utilize tissue-specific models conferring diabetes protection or risk.
  4. Computational: We have developed analytic approaches to understand gene transcription aberrations in diabetes.
