Research Interests
Dr. Randak's research focuses on the gene product affected in cystic fibrosis, the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) with a major emphasis how CFTR functions and how CF-associated mutations may disrupt function. In particular Dr. Randak is interested in how the two nucleotide-binding domains of CFTR regulate CFTR chloride channel activity and how these mechanisms relate to mechanisms in other members of the ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporter protein familiy, to which CFTR belongs. Dr. Randak investigates CFTR function biochemically and by using patch clamp electrophysiology.
