Developmental cardiovascular biology; Integrative neural regulation of cardiovascular function; developmental programming of adult cardiovascular disease.
Our research focuses on developmental cardiovascular biology. We are presently investigating cellular and molecular adaptations of the fetal heart to increased work load. This work is performed primarily in the fetal sheep and involves a number of surgical and benchtop investigations.
We are also very interested in the field of "fetal programming", the concept that the intrauterine environment plays a powerful role in determining risks for adult onset diseases, such as hypertension, coronary artery disease and diabetes. We are taking a multidisciplinary approach to investigate mechanisms of hypertension and coronary artery dysfunction.
