The Division of Endocrinology and Diabetes currently provides consultative
services and/or long-term care for approximately 300 patients each month.
The primary setting is the Pediatric Specialty Clinic. A number of patients
in the inpatient wards are on the Endocrinology and Diabetes service or
are consulted upon . This clinical base provides the pediatric trainee
the opportunity to be directly involved in the diagnosis and management
of patients, who have common but also unusual endocrine diseases. The
chronic nature of many of these illnesses provides an in-depth experience
with the psychological and social , as well as physical aspects of these
diseases. Research interests of division faculty include the genetics
of obesity , the effect of biosynthetic growth hormone in children with
short stature, and the study of Hypoglycemia and continuous glucose monitoring
in children with type 1 diabetes . The division offers fellowship training
in endocrinology.
