Infectious Diseases

University of Iowa Children's Hospital

Residents have the opportunity to gain broad experience in clinical and microbiologic diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases of childhood. The Division of Infectious Diseases provides consultative services for children with infections. Daily ward rounds, weekly clinics, and teaching conferences encompass all aspects of the subspecialty. Residents assist in the performance of consultations when on the infectious diseases elective.

Research programs include the pathogenesis of antibody-modulated demyelination induced by viruses, determination of antigenic varicella proteins for vaccine development, and the development of strategies to sequence unknown human genomic DNA.
