Nephrology and Hypertension

University of Iowa Children's Hospital

The program in nephrology offers a broad specialized experience for pediatric resident physicians. Weekly clinics, teaching conferences, and inpatient rounds cover all the special interest areas within the subspecialty. The residents assigned to nephrology assist in consultations on both the pediatric and urology services. Additional clinical experience is provided by management of pediatric patients requiring dialysis and transplantation. Residents acquire experience in the management of pediatric patients with nephritic and nephrotic diseases, acute and chronic renal failure, hypertension, fluid and electrolyte disorders, tubular diseases, and common urological problems.
