The SHAPEDOWN: Just for Teens Program
University of Iowa Children's Hospital is proud to offer the SHAPEDOWN: Just for Teens program. This new program is for 7-12th graders who are overweight or at risk for overweight. The SHAPEDOWN Program coordinates efforts of nurse practitioners, psychologists, dietitians, and fitness specialists. Their goal is to improve:
- eating habits
- body image
- exercise habits
- supportive family dynamics
SHAPEDOWN: Just for Teens offers:
- Individualized assessment and recommendations
- Emphasis on improving self acceptance
- Weekly meetings focused on supporting lifestyle changes
- Nutrition education and behavior management for teens and parents
- Ideas and structure for developing better eating habits
- Fitness assessment and opportunities to experience success in exercise
- Coordinated care and consultation with your doctor

Because obesity is affected by diet, activity level, genes and emotions, the SHAPEDOWN Program helps create success with lifestyle changes for overweight teens.
