Family Care Center   Enter through Counseling & Health Promotion Clinic    Find out if SHAPEDOWN: Just for Teens will meet your needs by attending an informational session.   Attending does not commit you to the program but will give you information to help you decide if you are ready.

When does it begin?
The SHAPEDOWN Program group sessions begin Tuesday, March 25, 2008. Final meeting for the Spring 2008 group will be Thursday, May 29, 2008.

Interested teens and families should attend an orientation session. Contact Krista at 319-384-7900 for the next available orientation session.

How long is the SHAPEDOWN: Just for Teens Program?
The SHAPEDOWN program lasts 10 weeks. The goal is to work with teens and their parents to modify behaviors around weight. The focus is on mental health and family involvement.

UI Hospitals and Clinics anticipates offering ADVANCED SHAPEDOWN, a nurturing support program that deepens and extends their progress. ADVANCED SHAPEDOWN meets weekly or biweekly for 20 weeks or more. Teens enjoy the SHAPEDOWN groups. Parents receive support from other parents and cooperate toward their child's progress.

When and where does the SHAPEDOWN: Just for Teens Program meet?

Tuesdays, 5:30-7:30 p.m.
Family Care Center, Counseling and Health Promotion Services Clinic (lower level, Pomerantz Family Pavilion)
Teen and parents will meet separately for the first hour, then meet together for family time. Parents are required to attend each weekly education and support session. A healthy snack will be provided.
(Park in the Family Care Center Parking Ramp which can be accessed from Melrose Avenue.)

Thursdays, 6:30-7:30 p.m.
Exercise Session Cardio Facility
City High School, 1900 Morningside Drive, Iowa City
Teens: wear loose fitting clothing and athletic shoes for exercise.
