Fitness, weight, and long-term health

Several studies have now convincingly demonstrated that fitness within your weight may play a more important role in long-term health than changing your weight. Moderate regular exercise of 3 to 5 hours per week can produce significant benefits, as demonstrated by studies conducted in the US and Scandinavia.

Also, losing 10% of your body weight after age 50 may double the risk of a hip fracture. All weight loss is not free of risk unless necessary weight loss is accomplished through behavioral and attitudinal change, it generally comes right back.
