Criteria for Participation
The purpose of this study is to determine whether bodily stores of essential fatty acids influence response to antidepressants and whether omega-3 fatty acid supplementation, when taken with antidepressant medication escitalopram (Lexapro), helps to improve depressive symptoms in individuals who have major depressive disorder (MDD). Omega-3 fatty acids are found in foods including walnuts, some fruits and vegetables, and coldwater fish such as herring, mackerel, sturgeon, and anchovies.
We are inviting you to participate in this research study if you have been diagnosed with MDD and you have not taken any antidepressant medication in the past month.
