    Residents and Fellows Training Programs

Psychiatry Residency Program Information


The General Psychiatry Residency is composed of the following rotations.

PGY-1 Year
[Clinical Assignments] [Conferences/Didactics] [Call Schedule] [Testimonial]

  • 5-6 months inpatient Psychiatry + 0-1 month as night float
  • 2 months inpatient Internal Medicine on Medicine-Psychiatry Unit
  • 2 months outpatient primary care in Internal Medicine, Family Practice, or Pediatrics clinic
  • 2 months Neurology, 1 month inpatient and 1 month outpatient

PGY-2 Year
[Clinical Assignments] [Conferences/Didactics] [Call Schedule] [Testimonial]

  • 5-6 months inpatient Psychiatry
  • 2 months Consult and Liaison Psychiatry
  • 2 months Child and Adolescent Psychiatry
  • 1 month as night float
  • 1 month on Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) Service
  • 1 month on Chemical Dependency Service (optional)

PGY-3 Year
[Clinical Assignments] [Conferences/Didactics] [Call Schedule] [Testimonial]

  • 12 months outpatient Psychiatry

PGY-4 Year
[Clinical Assignments] [Conferences/Didactics] [Call Schedule] [Testimonial]

  • 12 months of Continuity of Care Clinic (0.5 day/week)
  • 1 month of Consult and Liaison Psychiatry
  • 11 months electives*

* Numerous electives are available. Examples of electives that have been done in recent years include, Child Psychiatry, Research, Chief Resident UI Hospitals and Clinics/Veterans Administration Medical Center, Forensic Psychiatry, Chemical Dependency Service, Marital & Family Counseling, Student Health, Neurobehavioral Testing, Eating Disorders, Electroencephalography, Electroconvulsive Therapy, Medicine-Psychiatry, Community Mental Health Center, and Psychiatric Epidemiology.
