Residents and Fellows Training Programs
R1/R2 Call Schedule
First year residents do four supervised University training calls with a senior resident at the start of their internship. Otherwise, first and second year residents are assigned to either the University or VA call pools for each month, with a senior resident on backup call from home.
Residents are on call an average of 4-5 nights per month at either the University or the VA. University call is in-house call from 5-10 p.m. weeknights (with overnight covered by a night float) and 12-hour shifts on weekends. VA call is home call from 5 p.m. to 8 a.m. the next day on weeknights and a full weekend (5 p.m. Friday to 8 a.m. Monday), also from home.
