Admission Requirements


Applicants to the Program in Radiation Therapy at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics must:

  • Complete an application to the program (.pdf).
  • Graduate from an approved program in radiologic technology.
  • Complete a personal interview with the Student Admission Committee.
  • Have successfully passed the ARRT examination in Diagnostic Radiologic Technology (Radiography) prior to the September enrollment if Radiologic Technology Program has a completion date before the start of the Radiation Therapy Program. Applicants are also qualified that are taking the Radiography boards through October due to late school completion. They are qualified with the stipulation that they are required to pass boards on the first attempt or will have to withdraw from the program if selected until the following year, after successful completion of boards.

Applications are accepted September 1 through February 1 of each year. Selection of the students to be admitted in August is made in March of each year. Official transcripts from the applicant's high school, radiography program, and any other post-secondary education institution must be submitted. ACT or SAT scores must also be submitted along with scores from along with scores from any national registry exam. A personal interview by the Admissions Committee is conducted with each qualified applicant.

Student selection is made by the admissions Committee on the basis of ACT/SAT scores, national registry exam scores, grade-point average, science and math courses completed, past work experience, experience observing radiation therapy procedures, references, and personal interviews. Approximately six to eight students are selected for admission each year.

A general physical examination, conducted by the University of Iowa Hospitals Staff Screening, is required upon admission into the program at no cost to the student.
