Radiotherapy Technologist Degree

Overview


The Radiation Therapy program is sponsored by University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and the Department of Radiation Oncology. It is a 12 month program accredited through the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT).

The program uses the facilities of the Kerr-Latourette Radiation Oncology Center in University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for the supervised clinical experiences of the students enrolled in the radiation therapy program.

Students are eligible to apply for financial aid as administered by the University Office of Student Financial Aid. Call 319-335-1450 for information and/or appointment.

A Student Health option for an additional fee is available through The University of Iowa. Upon student purchasing this option, certain health options are covered for primary care and treatment.

All students in the health sciences at The University of Iowa are required to carry health insurance. There is coverage offered for a fee through the University of Iowa or student may obtain health insurance through another provider. The student will be required to provide proof of coverage to the University before the first day of classes.

The program year begins the end of August and concludes on the third Thursday of August the following year. The program hours are generally from 8 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday. The majority of classes and clinical rotations are scheduled during these hours. Part of this time is spent in classroom instruction and laboratory activities, the other part involves clinical instruction. All classes and clinical rotations are conducted within University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Instruction is provided by the members of the Radiation Therapy Program staff and by the physician, physicist, therapist, and nursing staff of the Department of Radiation Oncology.

At the completion of the program, the student is awarded a certificate and is eligible to make application to sit for the examination in radiation therapy administered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
