Originally from India, Dr Bhatia came to Buffalo, NY and initially worked at the Rosewell Park Memorial Cancer Center. He later moved to Baltimore and joined the Johns Hopkins University where he obtained a masters degree in Public Health and a doctorate in Immunology.
He came to the University of Iowa for a post-doctoral research fellowship. After working in Tumor Immunology research, he joined the Radiation Oncology Residency Program. He later completed a fellowship in Brachytherapy at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York.
He then worked as a staff Radiation Oncologist at the Newfoundland Cancer Treatment and Research Foundation in St John’s, Canada.
He moved back to Iowa to work at the Center of Excellence in Image Guided Radiation Therapy. He concentrates his practice on thoracic and gastrointestinal malignancy and he has significant interest in Brachytherapy (Implant/internal radiation for targeted radiotherapy). Dr Bhatia is also pursuing research in the combination of Immunotherapy with Radiation therapy for the development of more effective treatments against cancer.
