Faculty and Staff

The Department of Radiation Oncology is divided into different cores and designed to provide a compassionate patient care environment while researching better cancer treatments and someday a cure.

Radiation Oncologists

Radiation Oncologists are doctors specializing in cancer treatment through radiation therapy. If you are to receive any radiation therapy, you will have a radiation oncologist on your team of doctors.

Medical Physicists

Medical physicists work closely with the radiation oncologists and supervise the work of the dosimetrists in planning each patient’s treatment. They conduct quality-control programs for equipment and procedures and calibrate the machines daily.

Radiation and Cancer Biologists

Radiation and cancer biologists are scientists providing cutting-edge research into new treatment therapies, trying to minimize side effects, increase treatment effectiveness, and someday hope to find a cure.

Secondary and Joint Faculty

Faculty from multiple disciplines across the University contribute to our educational programs, research, and clinical services.

Dosimetrists

Dosimetrists perform calculations to ensure the patient’s tumor receives the dose prescribed by the radiation oncologist. They determine how the radiation beams should be arranged to best destroy the tumor and spare normal tissues surrounding the tumor.

Radiation Therapists

Radiation therapists are specially trained individuals responsible for the daily delivery of the prescribed radiotherapy. Radiation therapists interact with the patient on a regular basis, and are often one of the common "faces" of the radiation oncology department.

Radiation Oncology Nurses

The radiation oncology nurses are one of the greatest assets of the department.
