- Complete Curriculum Vitae
Dr. Manickam Muruganandham joined the department of Radiation Oncology June of 2006 as a clinical assistant professor of Medical Physics. After earning his undergraduate degree in Physics, Dr. Murugan went on to obtain first his Master’s in Medical Physics, later Master of Philosophy in Biophysics and PhD in Physics (Biomedical NMR) from INDIA, focusing on the applications of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Spectroscopy (MRS) techniques to study tumor physiology and metabolism. Dr. Murugan received his post-doctoral training in MRI/MRS at the Department of Medical Physics, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, New York.
Dr. Murugan’s prior professional appointments include V.N.Cancer Center, GKNM Hospital in Coimbatore, INDIA, where he served as Clinical Radiation Oncology Physicist for 3 years; Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, New York, where he focused his research efforts on the potential use of non-invasive functional MR imaging approaches to map hypoxia and angiogenesis in tumors. Dr. Murugan’s long-standing interest is to study the influence of tumor microenvironment on the outcome of cancer treatments especially radiotherapy. His expertise in both radiation and imaging physics facilitate development and integration of non-invasive MR functional tumor imaging in routine clinical radiotherapy practice to achieve the best possible treatment outcome. |
