Jack Taylor was recently diagnosed with a brain cancer. Jack is a frenetic and community-oriented business leader, that has always desired the best. After diagnosis and surgery he came to the Center of Excellence in Image-Guided Radiation Therapy, where he received more than six weeks of radiation along with oral chemotherapy. He has enjoyed excellent quality of life and been able to travel over the past year. He and his wife, Dawn, wanted to give something back, as they have for their community throughout their lives. They decided on a fundraising auction for brain cancer research at Fitch Galleries in Des Moines. There, Dawn arranged a party and donated some of her artwork to the auction. Their efforts raised more than $55,000. “This is a fantastic gift,” said John Buatti, M.D., Jack's primary physician at the Department of Radiation Oncology, University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. “Such contributions can make a difference and will be used on studies of brain tumor cells and their response to 2 dexyglucose and radiation.” Additional contributions to the Jack Taylor Brain Tumor Research fund for the UI Department of Radiation Oncology can be sent to Taylor Construction, Attn: Bobbi Smith, 6100 Thornton, Suite 200, Des Moines, IA 50321, or through the University of Iowa Foundation. |
