How long are the treatments?

What can I expect during the treatment?

Treatment varies between cancer sites. Generally, when it is time for your treatment, you will be taken to one of the treatment rooms. This procedure is followed each day of your treatment and will normally take about 15 to 30 minutes.

When you arrive, you may be asked to change into a hospital gown or expose the treatment area. The radiation therapist will assist you onto the treatment couch, adjust your position and the machine, and then leave the room to set the controls.

During treatment, lie still and breathe naturally. The machine will make sounds during your treatment. Remember the machines are monitored, as are you. If you need anything, you can call for the therapist.

When the machine has completed the prescribed amount of radiation (which is anywhere from 30 second to two minutes), the radiation therapist will return to assist you off the treatment couch. You can then get dressed and resume your normal activities.
