Skin care

It is important you do not wash off the colored lines. Treatments areas must not be washed with soap. Lotions, creams, or powders should not be applied to the treatment area, unless as directed by your radiation oncologist or nurse.
  • Wear only loose fitting clothes over treatment areas.
  • Heat, in any form, should not be applied to the treatment areas.
  • Avoid exposure to intense direct sunlight or ultraviolet rays.
  • Do not apply ice packs to treated skin.

Toward the end of treatment, the irradiated skin may become pink and itchy. It may tan and flake like a moderate suntan does. Avoid scratching the skin and any clothing that rubs the area. Skin reactions heal quickly after treatment is completed, and you will be given ointment to soothe the irritation.
