Expert Care for Incontinence And Other Bladder Symptoms

The Continence Center is a state-of-the-art facility offering a full range of urologic tests to determine the cause of urinary incontinence, including:

• Urge incontinence: feeling a sudden need to urinate, whether the bladder is full or not
• Stress incontinence: the bladder leaks while laughing, coughing, or during physical activity
• Mixed incontinence: experiencing more than one type of incontinence at different times

Experts in the center also evaluate and treat all other bladder problems, such as recurrent urinary tract infections, painful urination, interstital cystitis, and neurogenic bladder (which occurs when the nerve supply to the bladder is compromised).

While most bladder symptoms may be treated relatively simply with medication, biofeedback training, or change in lifestyle, surgery is sometimes needed. In these cases, the center’s urologic reconstructive surgeons work carefully with each patient to determine the best procedure.
