Fellowship Program
The UI Department of Urology fellowships are designed to provide intense training in a specialized area of urology to highly qualified graduates of academic urology residency programs. The fellowships are clinical or research experiences for one or two years. Fellowships are available in voiding dysfunction and reconstructive urology, urologic cancer research, and minimally invasive surgery, encompassing laparoscopic surgery, and endoscopy. The Department of Urology places primary emphasis on the residency training program; thus, clinical fellows are educational resources to the residents and assist them in clinic and during surgery. The Department of Urology has had several American Foundation for Urologic Disease scholars jointly sponsored by the American Urological Association and the Department of Urology, which has included two years of 80 percent research and 20 percent clinical study.
Fellowships in urology will prepare a graduate for a specialized practice within either a community or academic environment.
