Urodynamics and Reconstructive Urology

Urodynamics is a clinical science which evaluates the function of the lower urinary tract. The Department of Urology has a very active urodynamics center, performing approximately 500 studies per year. The center is a current state-of-the-art facility capable of a full range of studies, including video urodynamics, nerve conduction studies and electromyography. A biofeedback laboratory operates under the auspices of the urodynamics center.

Reconstructive urology consists of the treatment of conditions of the lower urinary tract, including urinary incontinence, urethral stricture disease and severe bladder dysfunction. Although patients with these conditions are usually treated with conservative measures, many will require reconstructive surgery. It is expected that residents will master the performance and interpretation of urodynamic studies to include video urodynamics. It is also anticipated that residents will be capable of performing all of the procedures commonly used in reconstructive urology.
