Expert Care for Stones In the Urinary System
Kidney Stones are solid deposits of mineral and acid salts and may be one of the most
painful of all urologic conditions.
Fortunately, kidney stones almost never require open surgery, and many patients can pass stones naturally, without surgery or instrumentation. If the stones cannot
be passed and medical attention is required, less invasive procedures can often be used.
Bladder Stones are crystal masses made from the minerals and proteins found in urine.
Stones can form anywhere in the urinary system and some end up in the bladder. Bladder stones are
less common than kidney stones and usually form because of another urologic problem, such as
bladder outlet obstruction, urinary tract infection, enlarged prostate, or neurological problems
in the bladder. Bladder stones must be removed, and some type of surgical procedure is usually
required.
