The Trail of Invisible Light: A Century of Medical Imaging

Iowa X-ray Experiment

X-ray apparatus

By January 1896 news of Wilhelm Roentgen's discovery had spread throughout Europe and North America. Many scientists in the United States conducted experiments to confirm Roentgen's findings. Iowa physicists were not an exception. Dr. Frank Almy, a physics professor at Grinnell College, repeated some of the experiments that Roentgen had performed only two months earlier. His original images and equipment are displayed in the Museum.
