Lectures
The Medical Museum offers lectures that relate to the scope of exhibitions currently displayed. Robert McCoy, the director of the Museum of Questionable Medical Devices in Minneapolis, MN, has visited the University of Iowa two times to give lectures on curious pseudo-medical practices and devices. Other Museum personnel, University and Hospital staff also make presentations connected to the Museum.
Films
Film is another medium that the Medical Museum uses to inform its patrons. Several exhibitions have included films that were pertinent to the main themes. Videos such as "Women and Heart Disease" and "Cardiac Catheterization," from The Beat Goes On: A History of Cardiology, and "Mental Disorders," from Order and Disorder: An Exploration of the Mind and the Brain, enhance the learning experience. The Museum has also shown actual footage of one of the first heart surgeries performed at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
Demonstrations
The Medical Museum has given many demonstrations to different groups. Junior volunteers and classes at the University of Iowa regularly attend Museum programs. Subjects range from those of Museum exhibitions to topics selected by instructors.
Publications
The Medical Museum offers from one to several publications on each exhibition. Eleven brochures, four catalogs, five books and two posters have been published describing the Museum's exhibitions.
