Mindfulness Staff
Bev Klug, MA, LMFT, Director of Mindfulness Programs, received extensive training from Jon Kabat-Zinn, PhD and the staff at the Center for Mindfulness at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center, and has been approved as a Certified Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Teacher by that institution. Klug has practiced mindfulness meditation for many years and started the MBSR program at UI Hospitals and Clinics in 1996. In addition to teaching mindfulness, Bev has been a teacher in multiple settings and is also a Licensed Marriage and Family therapist with over 20 years of therapy experience with individuals, couples, families, and groups. She integrates mindfulness practices into therapy and has been teaching Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy for prevention of depression relapse since 2003.
Christine Allen, LISW, has been teaching MBSR since 2004. She has served as a volunteer and co-facilitator in the program since 2001. Christine has practiced mindfulness meditation for many years, received training in MBSR for health care professionals from Jon Kabat-Zinn, Saki Santorelli and staff at the Center for Mindfulness, and has attended several extended mindfulness meditation retreats. She has a variety of volunteer and professional experiences and currently works as a social worker at Grant Wood Area Education Experiences. Christine is the instructor for the mindfulness course for UI Freshmen (link to ISIS).
Chris Klug, MA, MDiv has been teaching MBSR since 2001. Chris has practiced mindfulness meditation for many years, received training in MBSR for health care professionals from Jon Kabat-Zinn, Saki Santorelli and staff at the Center for Mindfulness, and has attended several extended mindfulness meditation retreats. Klug has a wide range of experiences in the helping professions and currently conducts grief counseling in private practice. In addition to teaching MBSR, he is a consultant to the Palliative Care staff at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
