Nursing Services

The Department of Nursing Services and Patient care is led by Heidi Nobiling, RN, MA, MBA, CNAA-BC, Interim Chief Nursing Officer, Nursing Services and Patient Care.

The Department provides nursing care to patients in five clinical divisions:

Patient care is provided in ambulatory, procedural, housed outpatient, acute, and intensive care units.

Each nursing division is headed by an Associate Director for Clinical Services. Each nursing unit is supervised by a nurse manager. Nursing administrative support is provided by an Associate Director for Operations, a Director of Nursing Research and Quality Management, a Director of Nursing Education, a Director of Nursing Informatics, a Director of Nursing Finance, and an Associate Administrator for Nursing Human Resources.

Advanced practice nurses with expertise in clinical care, research or education provide support in each division. Assistant nurse managers and nursing supervisors are also available to assist and direct staff in providing care.

The methods of care delivery include, but are not limited to, modified primary care, team nursing, total patient care, case management, and care coordination.

A shared governance model provides a structure for the development and monitoring of departmental standards, including policies and procedures that impact patient care and human resources.

The Department is fortunate to have nationally and internationally recognized nurses providing leadership in the areas of patient care, administration, nursing informatics, and nursing research. These nurses serve as mentors, teachers, and role models for our nursing staff.

A close relationship between the College of Nursing and the Department exists. Many of the leadership staff serve as adjunct faculty in the University of Iowa College of Nursing. Collaboration is evident in the experiences provided to University students, and in the educational opportunities offered to staff through the College of Nursing.
